Veteran politician and founder of the People’s Progressive Party, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali has urged opposition parties to prepare for life after Museveni, instead of seeing him as their target.
As the countdown to the next general elections continues, Bidandi said that opposition political parties such the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the National Unity Platform (NUP) are setting their focus on incumbent President Museveni instead of focusing on life after him.
Bidandi made remarks while appearing on Elections 360, a political all-round show that airs on NBS Television, every Wednesday.

Bidandi said: “Prepare for a situation after Museveni other than pulling strings. They should know that Museveni is not immortal.”
The veteran politician said that back in the day, a political party was indeed a party and no one would hold an administrative position without acquiring training for that position.
He said that these days however, politicians behave like they will be in the positions they hold for life.
“I don’t want to condemn any political party. There are always values acquired in leadership. As long as you don’t appreciate those values, then you are off-target,” Bidandi added.
Bidandi said that he would like to be remembered as someone who served his country diligently without compromise.
About Bidandi Ssali
Bidandi was born in Butambala district on 17 July 1937 to Bumaali Kakonge Matembe and Nalongo Eriosi Bulyaba.
He attended local elementary schools before joining Kibuli Junior School. He transferred to Nyakasura School for his A-Level education. He went to Pakistan, pursuing a degree in agriculture, but left before graduation.
He holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Local Governance and Human Rights, obtained from Uganda Martyrs University. As of October 2012, he was pursuing a master’s degree from the same university.
He is a veteran Ugandan politician] and businessman. He is the founder of the People’s Progressive Party in Uganda and served as its president.
Previously he was Minister for Local Government from 1989 to 2004.
Bidandi was also an unsuccessful candidate in the 2011 presidential elections.
