KAMPALA, UGANDA – A devastating accident that occurred at the Kayunga Road Junction along Acacia Avenue in Kampala has resulted in the loss of two lives and left several others with serious injuries. Investigations indicate that the accident was triggered by a black Mercedes-Benz, driven by Mr. Faziru Kimera, a resident of Buwate in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the Mercedes-Benz was speeding from the Acacia side when Mr. Kimera lost control of the vehicle at the Kayunga junction. The car collided with the road barriers, tragically striking three street children who sought shelter at the roadside. The vehicle’s trajectory continued, leading it to collide with a white Toyota Mark X, bearing registration number UBF 788K, which was approaching from the Mulago side.
Swift action was taken by the authorities in response to the incident, with the injured victims immediately transported to Mulago Hospital for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, despite the efforts of medical professionals, two of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries, further deepening the tragedy.

In light of the accident, the police impounded both vehicles involved and securely parked them at the Kira Road Police Station. The Inspectorate of Vehicles will thoroughly inspect the cars as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the collision.
Simultaneously, all drivers involved in the accident were promptly taken to nearby hospitals to receive the necessary medical treatment. The police authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. They continue to urge all road users to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and strictly follow traffic regulations to prevent such tragic accidents.
