Kampala Metropolitan Police investigate murder of their own

Police in Kampala are investigating the murder of one of their own, who was reportedly killed by a mob around the Nicodemus Pork Joint in Nakulabye on the night of January 20, 2022.

At the time of his death, Harshim Mwenyi was a traffic officer posted to Tororo Police, but it is not clear why he was in Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Mwenyi was killed by a mob.

“There was a mob justice incident around Nicodemus Nakulabye. The incident happened on Thursday at around 9:00 pm. The area Police responded, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it. The body was conveyed to City Mortuary, Mulago,” he said.

Owoyesigyire said no arrests had been made yet.

He also said they only realised the victim was a Police officer when the mortuary attendants recovered his warrant card.

“We shall provide more details about the incident later,” said Owoyesigyire.
