During the event, Dr. Noah Musa, Member of Parliament for Koboko North, advocated for reduced taxes on ICT devices, underscoring their pivotal role in fostering youth engagement and enhancing various sectors such as agriculture.

Recognizing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the West Nile region, the need for a dedicated ICT innovation hub became evident. Muni University, led by Prof. Robert Kajobe and Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, responded by providing a platform to address these challenges. With the support of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Muni University successfully established the regional ICT innovation hub, equipped with essential amenities including meeting spaces, high-speed internet, and cloud storage facilities.

Dr. Zawedde reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing policy issues to reduce the cost of ICT devices, potentially through local manufacturing initiatives. Additionally, she highlighted the five pillars of digital transformation: infrastructure and connectivity, digital skilling, e-services, cybersecurity, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

Encouraging youth participation, Dr. Zawedde urged them to leverage the opportunities presented by the ICT hub to develop innovative solutions tailored to their region’s specific challenges. The launch of the West Nile Regional ICT Innovation Hub signifies a significant step towards empowering communities and fostering inclusive growth through technology.
