Lwengo L.C V Councillors have expressed concern over the poor state of toilets used at the district headquarters.

The councillors are threatening to boycott all council sessions and other activities to protest the horrible state of toilet facilities at the district headquarters which they say is unbearable to them.

Sarah Nakanwagi, the district Councillor for Lwengo Town council has expressed her displeasure during the council sitting arguing that all the people at the district headquarters are at great health risk using the latrines that are in poor state.

The available toilet at Lwengo district headquarters was constructed in 2013. According to Nakanwagi the facilities are now old and poorly maintained thereby producing unbearable stench and flies hovering all over the place.

Alice Nakayondo, the Lwengo district council Deputy Speaker confirms that the toilet in its current state is far below the average, which is demeaning to them as leaders who use them.

She demands that the district administration finds money to construct appropriate toilet facilities that can provide a favorable working environment for their teams at the headquarters.

David Mugabi, the Lwengo District Health Inspector who is directly charged with enforcing public hygiene has declined to comment about the poor state of the toilet, referring the matter to the office of the Chief Administrative Officer.

When contacted Grace Kisembe, the Lwengo district Chief Administrative Officer  appealed to the councillors to patiently wait as the district undertakes the process of extending water to headquarters which will provide a sustainable solution to the challenge.

According to him, the district temporarily opted to using drainable toilet facilities as they wait to connect to the water supply network after which the toilets will be remodeled to become waterborne.
