Museveni Highlights NRM Achievements Ahead of 2026 Elections

President Yoweri Museveni on Friday highlighted the NRM achievements 2026 ahead of the January elections. He emphasized revamped health units, upgraded tarmac roads, Parish Development Model (PDM) funds, newly established schools, and the discovery of oil, stressing the need to protect these gains.

During a campaign at Apac Bomah Ground, Museveni explained that his administration built numerous schools, expanding access to education and empowering future generations. “At independence, northern Uganda had only two Senior Four (S.4) schools: Sir Samuel Baker and Teso College Aloet. Today, Apac alone has seven secondary schools: four rural and three municipal,” he said.

He added, “Uganda had only six A-Level schools in 1961. Now, Apac District has four. This clearly shows the work of the NRM.”

In healthcare, Museveni noted that the government improved services significantly. The upgraded health units allow people to access care more easily and improve overall health outcomes. Out of 12 sub-counties in Apac, two still lack a health facility, but eight health centre IIIs serve a total population of 221,962.

Furthermore, Museveni promised new health projects. “We will upgrade Akere’s health centre II to III. Atik Division will get a new health centre III. Maruzi Constituency has a health centre IV with two doctors but no ambulance; we will provide one. Teboke Health Centre III will become a health centre IV in Maruzi North.”

He also highlighted road infrastructure that supports trade and stimulates economic growth. “In Lango, we started by tarmacking the Soroti-Lira road, which was murram. Kamdini-Lira had grown old, so we renewed it,” he said.

Museveni stressed that PDM funds promote grassroots socio-economic transformation. These revolving funds allow communities to access financing for income-generating projects, improving livelihoods and reducing poverty.

In addition, the discovery of oil creates new opportunities for economic growth. Museveni said the government ensures that oil revenues benefit Ugandans and promote sustainable development. “I appeal to the people of Apac, bol kwir aber (vote wisely),” he said.

Residents outlined expectations for the incoming government. In Kwania, they requested better roads, higher teachers’ salaries, lower agro-input costs, and improved healthcare. Geoffrey Omunu of Acwao Village asked the government to subsidize seeds and agro-chemicals so farmers can earn better profits.

Similarly, Amos Obwol of Akwon demanded a solution to the ongoing teachers’ strike, noting that children remain at home while the term progresses. Monica Amek from Alaket highlighted the lack of medicines at most health facilities, even though buildings and some staff exist.

In Apac, residents prioritized upgrading Apac General Hospital and removing the army from Lakes Kyoga and Kwania. Fishermen, like Sam Ogwang from Apoi Sub-county, requested alternative livelihoods after displacement. Rose Atim from Amilo Trading Centre called for upgrading Apac General Hospital to a regional referral facility.

Overall, the NRM achievements 2026 focus on healthcare, education, infrastructure, PDM funds, and oil development, reflecting projects that aim to improve lives and promote sustainable development ahead of the 2026 elections.
