Museveni sympathises with Ugandans and Rwandans at Katuna

by Uganda Times

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni spoke to hundreds of Ugandans gathered at the Katuna border post & Kabale waiting for outcomes of the summit.

Speaking to the Ugandans, he said that with the independent facilitators from Angola & DRC, the truth will come out because the National Resistance Movement stands for the truth.

Museveni expressed sympathy to Ugandans and Rwandans affected by the Katuna border closure.

He called for patience saying that a lasting solution is being sought. Thousands of Ugandans waited for him at Katuna town and Kabale Municipality.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the summit recommended that Uganda will verify the allegations by Rwanda about the actions of forces hostile to Rwanda operating in Uganda.

If the allegations are true, the Uganda government will take measures to stop it and prevent it from happening again.

The action must be verified and confirmed by the Ad-Hoc ministerial commission for the implementation of the memorandum of understanding of Luanda.

Once this recommendation is fulfilled and reported to the heads of state, the facilitators will convenewithin 15 days, a summit, in Gatuna/Katuna, for the solemn re-opening of borders and subsequent normalisation of the relations between the two countries.

For nearly a year, the common border at Katuna has been closed, with Rwanda accusing Uganda of hosting elements that are hostile to the Kigali government.

Today’s meeting was a culmination of a series of meetings held in Luanda, Angola, and Kigali by different delegations.
