Nicolas Cage will hit the small screen as the gun-carrying “redneck with a mullet” Joe Exotic, in the first-ever TV role of his career. Awesome.
Based on an article written by Leif Reigstad in Texas Monthly, Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild, the show will follow Cage as Joe Schreibvogel, a caricature of Southern stereotype’s extreme paranoia.
Is this a match made in Hollywood heaven? Considering we’re both intrigued and pre-hitting levels of cringe we weren’t sure were actually possible, we’re going to say, yes. There isn’t even a trailer to show for it yet and we’re rating it a solid 10/10.
According to Variety, the show, which will be written by American Vandal showrunner, Dan Lagana (who bought the rights to the story) will be co-produced by CBS Television Studios and Imagine Television. Unfortunately for us, the series will only be 8 episodes long, but will finally answer the question “how the hell does a man like this exist as he is.”
This won’t be the only project Cage has on the go this year. We can also expect to see him star in his own exaggerated bio-pic, “The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent.” A meta-drama about Nicolas Cage competing with Nicolas Cage for the role of … Nicolas Cage?
To be frank, the concept is a little unclear, but man, is this going to be an interesting year for our eyeballs. Here’s to more crazy quarantine ideas, and the man, the myth, the legend that is Nic Cage, taking on roles like this one.
