Opposition Members of Parliament have announced a boycott of President Museveni’s address, scheduled for Thursday this week, citing the government’s failure to address their concerns.
The legislators have accused the regime of continuing to arrest political opponents, not doing enough to combat corruption, violating the rights of members of Parliament, and incarcerating innocent citizens without trial.
President Museveni is expected to address the nation tomorrow, March 16th, 2023, at the Kololo ceremonial grounds. Some lawmakers are hopeful that Museveni will address the issue of his ministers’ involvement in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
During the plenary on Tuesday, Forum for Democratic Change’s Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda protested the change of venue from Parliament to Kololo and argued that Parliament had already purchased a large tent to host sessions with high attendance, making the move unnecessary.
