According to Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary of Judiciary, the recent passing of Keith Muhakanizi, who held the position of Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, is a significant setback in the fight against corruption within the Office.
Bigirimana, who also previously served as Permanent Secretary in the OPM, expressed his sadness and shock at the news of Muhakanizi’s death, recalling that just a few weeks prior, Muhakanizi had reached out to him to express his concerns about corrupt and undisciplined officials within the Prime Minister’s office.
Bigirimana had great confidence in Muhakanizi’s abilities to combat corruption due to his fearless and determined administrative skills.
Muhakanizi, who was 64 years old, passed away on Thursday from cancer while being treated in a hospital in Milan, Italy. Prior to his role in the OPM, he had served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury from 2013 until 2020.
