In the Busoga North region, a police officer finds himself facing attempted murder charges after a shocking incident that unfolded on the night of September 12, 2023. The accused, identified as Detective Constable Bwire Moses Mangeni, aged 27, has been dismissed from the police force on disciplinary grounds and subsequently charged in court.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 PM when Detective Constable Mangeni, who had requested access to a police motorcycle, was denied permission to use it. The motorcycle was the only mode of transportation available at the Namugongo Police Post in Kaliro district. Angered by the refusal, the suspect resorted to violence.
Mangeni allegedly seized a hoe and attacked Police Constable Kutosi Tyson, causing severe injuries. But his violent outburst did not end there. After assaulting his fellow officer, Mangeni reportedly obtained a firearm loaded with 30 rounds and indiscriminately fired all the bullets. This reckless act resulted in several bullet holes being found in the office of the Officer in Charge (OC) at the police post.
Swift action was taken, and Detective Constable Mangeni was apprehended as he handed over the gun with an empty magazine at Kaliro Nursing Training College. Subsequently, he was brought before the court on September 15, 2025, where he is now facing charges of attempted murder. Meanwhile, Police Constable Kutosi Tyson was urgently transported to Musana Health Center for medical treatment.

In the Greater Bushenyi and Sheema districts, a police officer is facing serious charges of threatening violence. The accused in this case is Corporal Ambrose Katumwehe, a 57-year-old police officer stationed at the Kanekye Police Post in Kashozi division.
The incident took place on September 12, 2023, at around 11 PM when Corporal Katumwehe, reportedly under the influence of alcohol and armed with a firearm, menaced Nakyanzi Caroline, a barmaid in Kanekye trading center. The officer allegedly threatened to open fire on the victim’s door if she did not comply with his demands.
Following the menacing threats, Katumwehe reportedly discharged three bullets into the door, triggering an alarm and causing panic in the area. Prompt action was taken by the District Police Commander (DPC) and the police team, resulting in the arrest of the suspect. Law enforcement authorities recovered the firearm, cartridges, and other evidence.
Corporal Ambrose Katumwehe has since been charged with attempted murder and threatening violence in connection with the incident.
