Rubaga Division, Kampala – The community of Rubaga Division in Kampala is grappling with anxiety and concern following a shocking incident where a stranger lured a young boy away under the pretense of buying him a bicycle as a gift. The unidentified individual vanished, leaving behind distraught parents and a determined police force seeking answers.
The victim, 6-year-old Sseginuja Mohammed, was last seen accompanying the stranger to a local shop in the area. Alarmed by their son’s sudden disappearance, the parents conducted an immediate search of the neighborhood, but their efforts proved futile. Worried for their child’s safety, they promptly reported the distressing incident to the Uganda Police Force.
Responding swiftly to the report, law enforcement agencies initiated a full-scale investigation into the disappearance of young Mohammed. Meanwhile, another incident in a different part of the city shed light on a potential connection. A bodaboda rider reported the theft of his phone by a stranger who was accompanied by a young boy.
According to the rider, the stranger approached him with the child and requested to borrow his phone for a quick call. Seizing the opportunity, the stranger disappeared while still holding the phone to his ear, leaving the bewildered boy behind.
As investigators delved deeper into the case, they established a link between the two events and concluded that the young boy was indeed Sseginuja Mohammed, previously believed to have been kidnapped in Mutundwe-Mbao. Fortunately, the child was eventually reunited with his mother, Sarah Nassazi, 22, bringing some relief to the distraught family.
Law enforcement officials expressed deep concern over the emerging trend of such incidents, noting that similar occurrences have become increasingly common in Rubaga Division. They issued a stern warning to the public, advising against handing over mobile phones or trusting individuals who approach them with young children. Authorities also urged potential victims to exercise caution by interrogating individuals involved and assessing if they have a genuine relationship with the child.
The community of Rubaga Division remains on edge, with heightened vigilance and an urgent call for enhanced child safety measures. The Uganda Police Force has assured residents of their commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter and apprehend the responsible individuals, while urging the public to report any suspicious activities or provide any information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
In light of this distressing incident, parents and guardians are urged to remain vigilant, educate their children about personal safety, and maintain open lines of communication to ensure their well-being and security in the face of potential threats.
