The victims are Francis Nyesigyire aged 33 a resident of Kayeje in Rweikiniro sub-county, Ntungamo district and another only identified as Aloise, a resident of Nyarubuye sub-county, Kisoro district.
Two people have been shot in clashes between police and matooke traders operating from Gatimba market in Kisoro municipality.
The victims are Francis Nyesigyire aged 33 a resident of Kayeje in Rweikiniro sub-county, Ntungamo district and another victim only identified as Aloise, a resident of Nyarubuye sub-county, Kisoro district.
Last month, authorities ordered traders to shift from Gatimba market to Rusiza. But, traders resisted relocation arguing that they were not given reasons for relocation.
Traders also argued that Rusiza is not strategic for their customers and very small to accommodate them.
Gatimba market which operates in the heart of Kisoro municipality operates every Monday and Thursday of the week.
Tom Buchana, one of the traders says that when they turned up for work on Thursday, they found heavily armed police deployed in all corners of the market, resulting into a fight as traders forcefully gained access to the market.
It forced police to start shooting live bullets as traders pelted the police officers with stones, while traders pelting stones at officers.
The victims were rushed to St. Francis Mutorere Hospital where they are being admitted.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner at Mutorere hospital declined to comment on the matter saying that he will release a statement after a meeting with all district leaders. Mugisha calls for calm saying that the matter will be sorted.
