Uganda has registered another case of COVID-19, bringing the number of active patients to 13, according to a status update issued this evening by the Ministry of Health.
The update, also read out by President Yoweri Museveni this evening shows that out of the 215 people tested today, one was found positive of the coronavirus, a disease that is causing havoc across the world.
Museveni said that since Uganda started testing on March 21, they have in total tested over 3600 people. Most of those who have tested positive were returnees from Europe, the United State of America and the middle East especially the United Arab Emirates.
“If we had not acted in time I don’t know where we would be now because these people were coming from these countries which have a lot of problems,” Museveni said.
He commended Ugandans for responding well and listening to guidelines aimed at limiting the spread of the virus.
“There are some characters who play with fire because this disease is very dangerous. Therefore, those playing with this should stop. They should stop saying nonsense; this is not about inconvenience; that you are bored; that’s good, you could be in the grave where there is no boredom.” Museveni said.
He added that people should hang in a little bit longer until the 30 days are over to asses and see whether it would be the right time to loosen up on the restrictions.
“These small numbers may not be conclusive but shows some success at least on our side,” Museveni said.
The virus has so far infected 1,493,726 people and killed 87,466 others worldwide.
