Lausanne, Switzerland – Ugandan Inspector of Police (IP) Peruth Chemutai has showcased her athletic prowess by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League event held in Lausanne last night. The city of Lausanne, located on the shores of Lake Geneva in the French-speaking region of Vaud, is renowned as the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee and is home to the Olympic Museum and Olympic Park.
Chemutai’s outstanding performance on the track earned her a well-deserved place on the podium. She clocked an impressive time of 9:11:91, securing third place and showcasing her remarkable skills in the demanding steeplechase event. Her achievement also comes with the added reward of qualifying for the upcoming World Championships, scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, this August.
The race was ultimately won by Beatrice Chepkoech, who dominated the event with a time of 9:05.98. This race marked Chepkoech’s return to her specialist discipline after assisting Faith Kipyegon in breaking the world 5000m record in Paris.
In another thrilling competition, Mary Moraa demonstrated her joy after a decisive victory in the 800m event. As the world bronze medallist, Moraa outpaced Keely Hodgkinson in the final stretch and achieved a season’s best time of 1:57.43. Both athletes closely followed the pacemaker, reaching the 400m mark in 56.65 seconds. However, Moraa’s strong kick enabled her to maintain the lead and secure victory, finishing almost a second ahead of the world and Olympic silver medallist. Hodgkinson claimed second place with a time of 1:58.37, while Natoya Goule from Jamaica finished third in 1:58.90.
Peruth Chemutai’s remarkable achievement at the Diamond League in Lausanne serves as a testament to her talent and dedication as an athlete.
