Former MP Aspirant Arrested in Mercury Deal Turned Robbery Case

The Territorial Police in Busoga North and Buyende districts have made a significant arrest involving a former Member of Parliament aspirant, Sempa Vincent, and two others in connection with an attempted robbery and fraud case related to a mercury deal at a German store in Busikwe village, Gumpi Subcounty, Buyende district.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, Sempa Vincent, his driver Isaac Musoke Robert, and an army officer from the Fisheries Protection Unit, Tiya Ndimulodi, were all taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Enanga explained that two other individuals involved in the incident, Fredrick Ngobi from Munyegera Ward, Buwenge in Jinja, and Nsuguba Ibrahim, a boda boda rider from Kamuli, met unfortunate fates as they were killed by a mob when the situation escalated.

The suspects allegedly had plans to carry out an illegal scheme, intending to intoxicate the sellers of mercury with chloroform in an attempt to steal the valuable substance from them. However, their plans were foiled when one of the seller’s sons raised the alarm, attracting the attention of local residents.

Police swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended five individuals suspected of being involved in the double murder of Fredrick Ngobi and Muhammad. These individuals were identified as Muyige Evulantine, Mwase Siragi, Mwige Swaibu, Mwase Ali, and Mwase Karim. They have already appeared in court to face charges related to the murders.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement in maintaining peace and security in the community, as well as the consequences that individuals face when engaging in criminal activities that disrupt the safety and well-being of others.
