Five Dead, Six Injured in Nakasongola Road Accident


A Nakasongola road accident on Sunday evening claimed five lives and injured six others around 8:30 PM. The crash took place in Kyalweza Village, Wabinyonyi Subcounty, along the Kampala-Gulu Highway. The incident involved a Toyota Hiace (UA 415AV) and a Nissan Diesel (UBL 615T). Both vehicles were white, and the drivers remain unidentified.

Police reports indicate that the Toyota Hiace was speeding as it came from Kampala. The driver lost control, veering out of its lane and colliding head-on with the Nissan, which was traveling from Gulu. The impact killed five people instantly, and six others sustained serious injuries.

Emergency responders rushed the injured to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased went to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations. Authorities are still working to identify the victims and trace their families.

Both vehicles were towed to Katuugo Police Park Yard for inspection. As a result, authorities are urging all drivers to exercise caution, particularly on the Kampala-Gulu Highway. This route has seen several fatal accidents in recent years. Law enforcement continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits and traffic rules.
