The UAE visa restrictions for Ugandans will take effect in January 2026, limiting long-term visa issuance for certain citizens. Authorities introduced the measures due to growing concerns over immigration abuse and criminal activities by some travellers.
Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Oryem Henry Okello, confirmed that the UAE is not imposing a complete travel ban. Instead, officials will target individuals considered high-risk for overstaying visas or violating local laws and culture.
According to Oryem, some Ugandans will still be allowed to travel to the UAE, but eligibility will depend on risk assessments. Short-term visas will continue to be available, while long-term visas will be suspended for certain categories.
The restrictions affect specific Ugandan citizens, particularly those likely to overstay or engage in unlawful activities. Oryem emphasized that the measure is selective and not a blanket prohibition.
Ugandan authorities do not plan immediate negotiations to reverse the restrictions. They aim to monitor the situation and assess its impact before pursuing further diplomatic engagement.
The UAE visa restrictions for Ugandans reflect the country’s broader efforts to tighten immigration policies for citizens from several African and European countries. Travelers are advised to follow official guidelines and secure valid short-term visas to avoid complications.
