At least 86 people have been remanded to Kitalya Government Prison for disobeying lawful orders.

The suspects appeared at Buganda Road Court on Thursday afternoon before the Chief Magistrate Mariam Ayo Akello.

The prosecution alleges that the accused persons on March 31st defied President Museveni’s directives prohibiting the movement of people from 7 pm and 6:30 am. This was one of the measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The suspects asked the court to pardon them saying that they were arrested as they returned to their homes.

Some told court that they had gone to report a case of robbery at Central Police station in Kampala but they were rounded off and put together with those that had defied the President’s directives.

They were remanded until April 16th 2020.

On Monday, President Museveni instituted a curfew for the whole country to start on March 31st at 7 pm to 6:30 am for 14 days as a raft of measures to curb the further spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Uganda has since confirmed 44 confirmed cases that have proved positive to  Coronavirus.
