Archbishop of Kampala Commissions New Refugee Multipurpose Hall to Support Underprivileged Communities

The Kathleen Park Refugee Multipurpose Hall, located at the Mazzolidi House Nsambya in Kampala, has been commissioned by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere.

Constructed by the Religious Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, the building is divided into various sections for refugees to receive teachings on catechism, development training, and hospitality, among other things.

During the opening ceremony, Archbishop Ssemogerere stated that his office is responsible for hosting and caring for refugees and other underprivileged Ugandans, but financial constraints have limited their ability to do so.

However, with the construction of such structures by the Institute of the Apostles of Jesus and other Catholic missions, the gap is being bridged. The Regional Superior of the Apostles of Jesus, Rev. Fr John Mary Mooka, mentioned that the mission has been lacking a well-prepared and designated place to accommodate and support underprivileged people, particularly refugees from neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, who often seek assistance at Mazzolidi House.

With the construction of this facility, many refugees will be able to receive spiritual and physical support. Justice Phillip Odoch of the High Court and Radio Sapientia‘s managing director, Fr Eustachius Lwemalika, among others, also attended the function.
