Armed Street Beggar remanded to Luzira Prison

A man who has a disability was charged and detained after he was discovered to have a firearm, army combat attire, and boots. The man, Kintu Mayambala, is 43 years old and has been begging on the streets of Kampala.

On April 4th, he was arrested after being searched, and a loaded pistol was found on him at a location outside Kalungu Plaza in the central business district of the capital city.

Mayambala was charged on Wednesday at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Court with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of government stores, which go against Section 316(2) and Section 22 of the Penal Code Act.

The accused, who did not have a surety, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him by Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha.

The prosecution side, led by Lydia Nakoto, informed the court that the investigation into the matter has been concluded. “I pray to this court to set the date for hearing because inquiries are complete,” she stated.

Her Worship Owomugisha remanded the suspect to Luzira prison until May 8th and also issued witness summons to appear before the court.
