Banknotes bearing Deputy Governor’s Signature are legally acceptable for transactions

by Uganda Times

Bank of Uganda has released a statement indicating that banknotes with various denominations, bearing the signature of the deputy governor, Michael Atingi-Ego, have been issued into circulation.

The statement clarifies that the law permits the deputy governor to sign in place of the governor on all shilling banknotes when the governor is absent. Bank of Uganda reassures the public that the legal status of banknotes bearing the late Governor Mutebile’s signature remains unaffected and will continue to be issued alongside those bearing the signature of the deputy governor.

Therefore, the public is advised to use all banknotes in circulation for transactions, including the newly printed notes with Atingi-Ego’s signature, which are considered legal.
