Officials from the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) have been monitoring and inspecting the Nakivubo Stadium construction, to ensure that all FIFA requirements and construction procedures, as well as steps of an internationally recognized football stadium, are followed accordingly.

Nakivubo Stadium is currently 90% complete. The facility will stage sporting activities for 40,000 spectators. It will also house other facilities for athletics, netball, bodybuilding, basketball, volleyball, boxing, and other sports.

Apart from the regular section, the stadium will have VIP and VVIP. It will also have executive wings with 20 seats each and a range of amenities.

More on the project

On top of the elegant dressing rooms, this world-class facility will also have six restaurants, two 300-seat cinema halls, medical rooms for both the home and visiting teams, and referee rooms, among other facilities.

The stadium’s construction had stalled due to COVID-19. This resulted in a protracted lockdown and a high cost of production.

Ugandan based Billionaire Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham who has always assured to exhibit the ability of Ugandans to perform at the top is now set to complete the redevelopment of the Nakivubo Memorial Stadium, which will transform it into a state-of-the-art sports facility. The stadium is expected to be a modern sports facility in Kampala and a legacy to develop the sports industry in the country.

The stadium redevelopment has been the talk of the town for years, with billions invested in the project as total cost upon completion will be $200 Million.

The redevelopment was aimed at exerting considerable ground-breaking creative efforts and excellent technical know-how that will enable the stadium to meet standards set by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), on top of being one of the best sports facilities in Africa.

According to Ham, the stadium project equally makes business sense, with incomes from the commercial premises attached. It will be a multipurpose stadium and home to various sports establishments, making it Kampala’s most famous and iconic ground.

Additionally, the stadium will have multi-level parking to accommodate over 10,000 cars, restaurants, gyms, and facilities for people with disabilities.

Ham aims to turn the Nakivubo Memorial Stadium into the best sports and entertainment complex in the region, and he is on track to not only complete the work in the shortest time possible but also make a statement about their capacity as Ugandans to do their best.

“We are almost done with the hardest bit of the stadium, which is the structure. What is left is to fast-track the completion of the work. I’m going to turn this place into an iconic venue,” he said.

Sports lovers in Uganda are eagerly waiting for the completion of the project, which will be a legacy to stay and develop the sports industry in the country.
