Amos Lugoloobi, the State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning and also a legislator for Ntenjeru North, has been apprehended and is presently in custody at Kira Road police station on allegations of mismanaging iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region.
This development comes just hours after the Anti-Corruption Court released Gorret Kitutu, the Karamoja Affairs Minister, from Luzira prison where she had spent a week on similar charges.
Lugolobi is among those who received iron sheets from the Karamoja iron sheets distribution and is believed to have used them to roof an animal shed on his farm. According to reports, the Ntenjeru North MP had received up to 600 iron sheets as part of the relief materials procured by the government through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) for vulnerable populations in various sub-regions, including Karamoja, Teso, Northern Uganda, Luweero Triangle, and Bunyoro.
However, Lugolobi later removed the roof, claiming that the iron sheets were “evil,” and stating that he no longer needed them. He said he would remove them to buy other iron sheets and re-roof his shed to avoid any claims of owing anyone anything on his property.
