Schools head teachers and teachers in Kasese District have welcomed the temporary closure of school in the wake of the corona virus threat. During his televised nation address on the corona virus threat on Wednesday evening, President, ordered the temporarily closure of education institution across the country a preventive measure.
He also banned public gatherings including congregational prayers, weddings, parties, rallies and any other social gatherings among others. A number of school heads in Kasese District, says the temporary closure of schools is the best alternative to control the spread of the virus in highly populated places.

Muserero says with the Corona virus threats from neighboring Kenya and Rwanda that have confirmed cases, Uganda shouldn’t take any chances.
He advises other school administrators to implement the directive for the good of their leaners and entire community.

The management of Mother Care preparatory school, said was ready to comply with the president’s directive. Labani Mwebaze Mwijyuke, the school head teacher told URN on Thursday that he had scheduled a staff meeting to see how to close the school today.
Mwijyuke also revealed that they have been sensitising their leaners on hand washing and other preventive measures to avoid infection.

He however, said they were faced with challenges of parents who hadn’t yet cleared school balances. Mwijyuke notes that such parents might not pay until school resumes yet the school has to get some package for teachers who are also going to be home.
At Kasese primary school, the administration had already begun to issue notes to parents to pick their children.

Robson Oguta, the Destiny preparatory head teacher, said they were read to enforce the president’s directive by closing today. He says schools must value the lives of learners and urges government to intensify awareness.

At the neighboring DRC, the Director of Studies Kamasasa primary school, Joachim Bwambale told URN they were ending their classes on Thursday. He is optimistic that the directive is the best step in the right direction to control the pandemic.
Daniel Rukara, a teacher at Kasese Muslim secondary school, says the directive has been welcomed by the school. As a teacher, he acknowledges that the closure will have consequences especially on candidate classes but says it is important to prioritise life before education.

Rukara however says government would have put emphasis on ensuring that schools have the necessary facilities before arriving at the decision to close schools.
Nyangoma Muranga, a senior four candidate at Kasese Moslem secondary school is worried that the closure might affect their preparations for their final examinations.
