LIRA CITY MAYOR, COUNSELOR ARRESTED AND BOOKED FOR BRIBING RPC

The police spokesperson for North Kyoga ,Patrick Jimmy Okema has confirmed to  Uganda  Times on the 2nd October 2022 midday that police were keeping in custody the Lira West Division Mayor ,Michael Ogwal Aconga and the youth counselor for Lira City Hon. Eriko Walter, politically known as ‘Kwon Na Lango’ for bribing with 400,000 shilling cash the North Kyoga RPC,SSP Anatomy Katwesigye.

Meanwhile the RPC however yesterday late in the evening, confirmed to the media that Mayor Ogwal was released on police bond on medical grounds because medically he was not doing well.

However the mayor this morning confirmed to the media that he has been released on police bond alongside the secretary finance /youth councilor Eriko.

Ogwal Aconga added that police told him to report today 3rd October 2022 to answer his bond but conditionally he was told to go together with his Speaker Hon.Okello Daniel.

He denied that he did not Bribe the RPC but he gave money as stipulated in the budget of the council was for ‘security budget, claiming that there are sections of some councilors who are politically witch hunting him.

‘Walter Eriko personally delivered the money to me, he came up to my home in the police barrack and said the mayor sent him to give me the money so that  I could help them on the issue of the bus park, Said RPC.

Walter Eriko when contacted on his known phone number did not answer Uganda Times repeated phone calls by press time.

The incident happened on the 1st October 2022 when the youth counselor approached the RPC that he could help them with the issue of Lira Bus park, the disputed  bus park.

RPC said he is not part of the city Bus park  and wondered why he should be bribed with money to handle the matter.

By press time the North Kyoga police Police Relation officer told Uganda Times that investigations over the bribe of 400,000 shillings are still on going as police arise still recording the suspects’ statement.

Last week the Lira City West council meeting flopped due to several issues surrounding it.

Yesterday, in the morning before his arrest ,Mayor Michael Ogwal Aconga met journalists and told them he wanted to summon the state house Anti-Corruption unit to appear in Lira city west  for investigation over corruption related cases.
