Ministries on spot over Covid-19 Vehicles.

by Uganda Times

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) led by Mr Medard Sseggona has raised concerns over the procurement of vehicles by the ministries of Health and Science, Technology and Innovations for the fight against Covid-19.

During a meeting with Health ministry officials, Mr Sseggona questioned the allocation of the vehicles to non-medical staff and entities irrelevant to the Covid-19 response.

However, Mr Kenneth Akiiri, the undersecretary for Finance and Administration at the Health ministry, denied the claims and stated that the vehicles were provided to people critical in the response or even after to cater for surveillance and related interventions.

The committee is seeking accountability for the cars, which were purchased using part of the Shs29.6b billion received from local donors to support the Covid-19 response. The probe follows a forensic investigation report by the Auditor General into the Covid-19 funds spent during the financial years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
