A report of an investigation into a plane crash that occurred in Tanzania in November has revealed that the pilots failed to heed warnings from an automatic alarm system. The crash, which killed 19 people, occurred when the plane attempted to land in the lakeside town of Bukoba and crashed into Lake Victoria.
The investigation, which was the second preliminary report, stated that a warning system that gave three alerts about “the excessively high descent rate” was “not followed by corrective action by the flight crew”. The report also noted that the weather conditions were poor, with low visibility, which “may have contributed to the failure to react to terrain warnings during the final approach”.
The initial report from the transport ministry had criticized the emergency services’ response to the disaster, sparking anger. The latest report has shed light on the actions of the pilots and highlights the importance of following proper protocols and heeding warnings in aviation.
The crash was a tragedy, with 19 people losing their lives, including the two pilots. However, the efforts of fishermen who were the first on the scene and spearheaded rescue efforts helped to save the lives of 24 people who were on board.
The report underscores the need for continuous improvements in aviation safety to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. It also emphasizes the importance of training and vigilance in ensuring the safety of passengers and crew.
