Muhoozi Baryomunsi clash has intensified after Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, publicly declared that Information Minister Chris Baryomunsi would “never be a minister again,” triggering a political storm that has dominated national debate.
The Muhoozi Baryomunsi clash erupted following remarks by Baryomunsi distancing government policy from earlier social media posts made by the army chief. Speaking on Capital FM, the minister said the CDF does not communicate official government positions through personal social media accounts, describing the posts as informal and not reflective of state policy.
Baryomunsi added that such statements complicate official government messaging and confirmed that he had raised the issue with the appointing authority, including President Yoweri Museveni. His comments came amid concerns that the deleted posts had briefly unsettled Uganda–United States relations.
In response, Muhoozi took to X, accusing Baryomunsi of disloyalty and declaring that he would never return to Cabinet. Kabanda accused the minister of undermining the CDF and claimed government communicators should avoid publicly diminishing senior military leaders, particularly during sensitive foreign relations engagements. He later issued a strongly worded statement on X, describing Baryomunsi as politically opportunistic and questioning his credibility.
Baryomunsi responded by dismissing Kabanda’s remarks as empty rhetoric, saying he had no intention of engaging further. His rebuttal, however, only intensified the online confrontation, keeping the Muhoozi Baryomunsi clash firmly in the public spotlight.
As tensions continue to play out publicly, political observers say the episode highlights growing friction between Uganda’s political leadership and senior military figures. Whether the clash will have lasting implications for Cabinet stability remains unclear.
