One Arrested in Rubirizi for Spreading False Information on Covid-19

Domiano Akankwasa, a resident of Rutoto is accused of posting on his Facebook page that the Director of Covoid Organisation Ben Bataringaya was affected by the virus.

One person has been arrested in Rubirizi district for spreading false information about coronavirus.

Domiano Akankwasa, a resident of Rutoto is accused of posting on his Facebook page that the Director of Community Volunteer Initiative for Development- Covoid Ben Bataringaya tested positive for the virus.

Paul Muwonge, the Rubirizi District Police Commander says Akankwasa was arrested on Friday after Bataringaya lodged a compliant. 

Kithembo Kisesete, the District Health Officer, says Rubirizi has not registered any COVID-19 case.

Akankwasa, the accused says he was joking when he posted the information.

Akwankwasa is currently held at Rubirizi Central Police Station.
