Internationally renowned Pan-Africanist, Bishop Joshua Marara Maponga, paid a courtesy visit last Friday to Uganda’s prominent investor tycoon, Hamis Kiggundu, at his offices located in Nakivubo within the Ham Shopping Mall. The meeting brought together two distinguished recipients of the PAP Global Awards 2023, with Bishop Maponga receiving the African Philosopher Award, and Hamis Kiggundu honored with the Entrepreneurial and Social Impact Award.

During their meeting, Hamis Kiggundu first provided a briefing to Bishop Maponga, who was accompanied by Pan African Pyramid (PAP) speaker Andrew Irumba Katusabe. Kiggundu shared his perspective on why he has chosen to invest all of his resources in Africa. He emphasized that the development of the continent can best be achieved by its indigenous Africans.

Kiggundu remarked, “In one of my favorite books, which I will share with you later, I illustrate how success and failure are rooted in reason and reality. No foreign entity can develop our homeland (country or continent) other than us Africans. It is our responsibility to undertake this task. That is why I believe in showing through actions rather than mere words, and it is yielding positive results. Africa is not impoverished; what we need is to utilize our intellect as a masterpiece, and we will triumph.” Bishop Maponga and Irumba nodded in agreement as they listened to Kiggundu’s insights.

Hamis Kiggundu is the owner of several prominent Ugandan companies, including Ham Agro Processing Industries, Ham Towers, Ham Shopping Malls, Ham Palm Villas, Ham International Express Logistics, Ham International Ltd, and Ham International UK Ltd, among others.

Following their discussion, Hamis Kiggundu led Bishop Maponga and his team on a tour of some of his noteworthy investments, including the multi-billion-dollar Nakivubo Stadium, which is nearing completion. Upon its finalization, the stadium is anticipated to have a seating capacity of 35,000 people. Beyond being a sports facility, this stadium serves as a symbol of legacy and a clear demonstration to all Ugandans that the country’s development is a collective responsibility.

Kiggundu’s privately owned state-of-the-art stadium in Africa stands as a remarkable achievement, especially when compared to other grand stadiums on the continent, such as the Cairo International Stadium (Egypt), FNB Stadium (Johannesburg, South Africa), Stade des Martyrs (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo), and Borg El Arab Stadium (Alexandria, Egypt), all of which are government-funded.

During the visit, Hamis Kiggundu expressed his commitment to continue supporting Pan-African Pyramid’s social impact programs, including the Awards, and various other projects aimed at advancing the continent.
