There was panic and confusiom in Kitgum municipality this evening as traders and residents make last minute sales and purchases to beat the 7pm curfew time.

President, Yoweri Museveni ordered a 14-day nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the virus starting this evening.
In several parts of Kitgum municipality, armed soldiers deployed to effect the directives started chasing traders and motorists from the markets, shops and streets as early as 5:20pm.
Several traders mostly women from Kitgum main market currently occupying Arua park in central division scattered for their dear lives at the sight of armed soldiers who ordered them to start parking their goods at 5:30pm.
Josephine Okot, one of the traders, said they were ordered to vacate their shops by 6pm so that they stay with their family members and never open the shop for the next two weeks.
She however said the security personnel shouldn’t be brutal, saying that many of them are ready to abide by the directives.
Alfred Ocan, a produce trader and Secretary Kitgum, said they welcome the directive and notes that they are ready to comply with the orders.
William Komakech, the Kitgum Resident district Commissioner on Monday cautioned residents to be home by 7pm to void falling victims of the curfew.
“I urge all residents to be home by 7pm, because beyond that time, security will take over all the streets,” he said.
At least 33 people have so far tested positive for the deadly disease in Uganda since its outbreak a week ago, according to the Health Ministry.
