Rajiv Ruparelia dies in car crash early Saturday morning at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. His Nissan GTR overturned and burst into flames after hitting temporary road barriers.
Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura confirmed that Rajiv had been driving from Kajjansi toward Munyonyo. He lost control of the vehicle after it struck the barriers near the flyover’s roundabout section. The car flipped and caught fire, killing him instantly.
Emergency responders quickly reached the scene and extinguished the fire. Unfortunately, Rajiv was already dead by the time they accessed the vehicle.
Rajiv, 33, was the managing director of the Ruparelia Group and son of billionaire Sudhir Ruparelia. He led key operations in banking, real estate, hospitality, and education, making him one of the region’s most influential young business leaders.
SP Kananura said police had launched a full investigation and would release more details as they emerge. He also urged motorists to take extra caution around construction zones and temporary barriers.
