KAMPALA, UGANDA: The National Unity Platform – NUP leader, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has refused to accept the declared results from Kayunga LC5 by-election saying President Museveni and his NRM party stole victory in the muchly contested race.In the final tally results announced by the Kayunga District returning officer, Ms. Jennifer Kyobutungi, Andrew Muwonge the NRM Flag Bearer garnered 31,830 votes to beat NUP’s Harriet Nakweede who collected 31,308 votes out of the 388 polling stations in the district.
Other candidates in the race of six included Democratic Party’s Antony Waddimba who collected 158 votes, and 3 other Independent Candidates; Majid Nyanzi – 1287 votes, Musisi Boniface Bandikubi – 470, and Jamil Kamoga – 279 votes.
Shortly after Muwonge’s declaration as the winner, Bobi Wine took to Twitter to reject the results saying Mr. Museveni and his party stole the victory to reclaim the seat which was formerly held by the late Ffeffeka Muhammad Sserubogo before the latter mart his death.
Bobi said the election which was on Thursday morning marred with ballot stuffing and pre-ticked ballots at various polling stations was rigged in broad daylight despite his candidate – Nakweede leading by a margin of 15000 votes last night.“In broad day light, Museveni robs the victory of the people, and declares his candidate in Kayunga! Despite the stuffing and all manner of rigging, the signed DR forms give us a 15,000 votes lead. Ugandans will have to decide the next course of action,” Bobi Wine said in a tweet on Friday morning.
The district LC5 seat fell vacant following the death of NUP’s Mohamed Ffeffekka Sserubogo in June, after one month in office.
