The Electoral Commission (EC) concluded the nomination of candidates for the Local Government Councils by-elections in Hoima District on Thursday.
The nomination process began on Wednesday, August 30th, at the Kitoba Sub-County headquarters in Hoima District. The proceedings were overseen by the Hoima District Returning Officer, Ms. Merab Kasande.
According to Paul Bukenya, the spokesperson for the EC, a total of five candidates were successfully nominated to vie for various positions in the by-election. The nominated candidates and their respective sponsors are as follows:
- Patrick Musinguzi sponsored by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
- Mugisha Uthman Mubarak sponsored by the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
- Muhumuza Vincent Savanah (Independent).
- Aguuda Moses sponsored by the National Unity Platform (NUP).
- Mugume Lennox (Independent).
In addition to these nominations, Bukenya announced, “Irumba Silvest (NRM) and Tumusiime Arafat Bun Ali (NRM) were declared elected unopposed for the position of Sub County Male Councillor representing Older Persons for Kabaale Sub County and Councillor for Katereiga Parish, Buhanika Sub County respectively.”
The nominated candidates will now embark on a campaign period spanning twelve days, from Friday, September 1st, to Tuesday, September 12th, 2023.
Bukenya further revealed that the polling for the by-election of the District Chairperson is scheduled for Thursday, September 14th, 2023, at all polling stations within Hoima District.
The seat for District Chairperson in Hoima District became vacant following the passing of the former Chairperson, Kadiri Kirungi, on March 17th, 2023.
