Senior military officer, Lt Gen Proscovia Nalweyiso, has issued a stern warning to singer Alien Skin and other musicians regarding the wearing of military attire.
Alien Skin has frequently appeared in public dressed in camouflage clothing that closely resembles army uniforms, raising concerns among some Ugandans.
In a recent interview, Lt Gen Nalweyiso expressed her apprehensions about Alien Skin’s fashion choices and advised him to avoid wearing military uniforms. She suggested that if he is keen on wearing such attire, he should undergo military training and officially join the army.
“Alien Skin, do not wear army uniforms. If you want to, get military training. We have many training schools. He can enlist in the army. Stay away from our combat. I know he has fans, but they should support him when he is not in army uniform,” stated Gen Nalweyiso.
She also urged relevant military authorities to address this issue promptly.
Additionally, Lt Gen Nalweyiso cautioned celebrities, particularly musicians, about associating with unruly groups, often referred to as “Eggaali,” when attending events. Recently, musicians have been known to move with such gangs, citing security concerns. Reports have indicated that some members of these groups engage in theft from event attendees.
Nalweyiso advised artists to distance themselves from such gangs and reassured that she would take measures to curb this emerging trend. She firmly warned musicians, saying, “Stop this behavior. If you cannot control your groups, then get rid of them. We do not want such activities in our country. We do not approve of your actions.”
