Umeme warns of possible power outage

by November 1, 2020

Electricity utility Umeme has warned of possible interuption of power supply, after another floating island was spotted.

In a tweet tagging @newvisionwire, Umeme urged Ugandans to be alert and keep their devices charged.

See tweet below:

In April this year, a 16-acre floating island caused a nationwide power blackout when it floated into the Nalubale Power Dam in Jinja.

At the time, President Yoweri Museveni put everything on hold and visited the scene to inspect the efforts to contain the movement of this island and restore normalcy.

Concerted efforts from NEMA, UPDF, National Fisheries Research Institute, UNRA, MAAIF and Ministry of Works eventually enabled the team to push the moving island from its risk location to the bay near Jinja pier.
