City businessman Hamis Kiggundu popularly known as Ham has come to the rescue of journalists through their umbrella body Uganda Journalists Association.
The Journalists through their president Kazibwe Bashir called out the wealthy businessman last week and asked him to bail out many journalists especially the free lancers that were facing hard times ever since the lockdown was implemented.Many journalists were cut off as media houses cited cost cutting while others cant access the field because they have no travelling permits.
UJA has managed to mobilize food relief to journalists who were hit hard by the lock down. They include: Sugar, rice, posho and beans to 100 journalists around Kampala and wakiso thanks to Business Man Hamis Kiggundu,Kazibwe Bashir said.We are still looking for more funds to help more journalists especially those that are upcountry and we hope by mid this week we shall be able to roll out more help to journalists,he concluded.
Hamis Kiggundu is a young billionaire with a string of buildings in Kampala the Capital city of Uganda.He is also building a modern estate along entebbe road just behind Akright estate and has for long been a supporter of journalists in Uganda
