50 covid-19 suspects have been discharged after finalizing the 14-days mandatory quarantine period.
They include 30 from self-quarantine; 15 from institutional quarantine and five from the isolation units of Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, the gazetted COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres.
According to information from the District Health Office, those discharged in the past ten days are individuals who willingly sought medical help after they returned from countries and showed COVID-19 like symptoms.
Gloria Aloyo, the Gulu District Information Officer told The Uganda Times that the discharged persons are always discharged with certificates as an appreciation and a means of encouraging more people at risk to embrace voluntary safety precautions.
The Acting District Health Officer, Yoweri Idiba revealed that four new travellers are still under self and institutional quarantine, while 33 more cases are under strict medical surveillance by the task force.
According to Idiba, 20 test sample results turned negative on Tuesday and 21 new samples of suspected COVID-19 cases were on the same day taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe for laboratory analysis.
However, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu LCV Chairperson observed that the level of awareness creation has been commendable and asked everyone in the district to adhere to the precautionary measures.
But Tom Oree, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner emphasized that security crackdown will continue against errant individuals flouting the Presidential directives and Ministry of Health guidelines to curb the spread of the disease.
The COVID-19 Gulu Task Force has responded to over 130 suspected cases of the deadly pandemic since mid-March 21 when the first outbreak was reported in the country. To date, the confirmed cases Coronavirus remains at 52.
