As the world battles the Corona virus Covid-19 pandemic, the bitter fight between the Bunyangabu district Chairperson James Ategeka Mugarama and RDC Jane Asiimwe Muhindo is not about to end.
The fight is not only a mere conflict but an explosion of the long existing political wars among top leaders in the district, now gaining new moment ahead of 2021 elections.
Since it’s inception, Bunyangabu district has been torn apart by different political camps, one serving the interest of the area MP Hon. Adolf Mwesige who is also the minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, and another group rotates around the district Chairperson James Ategeka Mugarama whom together faced it off for Bunyangabu MP seat .
Trouble started when Jane Asiimwe Muhindo was posted in the area as RDC and immediately got recruited to Hon. Adolf Mwesige camp and started serving his interests while executing her duties.
This automatically marked the beginning of the conflict with the chairperson and what is going on today is a just a tip in the iceberg.
The minister is also accused of recruiting the Chief Administrative Officer Mr Peter Ruhweza Nsugwa and some technical staff to his side and have consistently undermined the authority of the Chairperson under the influence of Hon Adolf Mwesige.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE SHARP POLITICAL WARS EXPERIENCED IN THE DISTRICT.
1. During the LC5 elections where James Ategeka Mugarama merged victorious, Hon Adolf Mwesige had fully supported the interim Chairperson Musinguzi Peter who lost. Todate, Musinguzi Peter is the district NRM Chairman.
2. During the last election of the woman MP, Hon Adolf Mwesige fully supported Rose Byabasaija by then serving as Kabarole deputy RDC. She lost to Hon. Peace Mutuzo who is the state minister of culture. Rose Byabasaija is currently working as the RDC mpigi district. Since then, the Mugarama and Mutuzo camp have never reconciled with Hon. Adolf Mwesige camp and the political wars continue penetrating grassroots leadership creating sharp leadership gaps in the district.
3. During the 2019 national women’s day celebrations in Bunyangabu district, the woman MP Hon. Peace Mutuzo was left alone in the mobilization drive. Hon. Adolf Mwesige shunned all the mobilization meetings after his efforts to have the celebrations at kibiito playground hit a dead end. Eventually the celebrations took place at Rwimi Town council where Hon. Adolf Mwesige was embarrassed in the presence of the President for telling lies about government programs.
4.During a handover function of a class room block at Rubona sec. School officiated by the Germany Ambassador, the district Chairperson Ategeka James was denied a chance to address the gathering inspite of the intervention of Bishop Rauben Kisembo of Ruwenzori diocese.
5. When Gen. Salim Saleh visited farmers in Bunyangabu district last year, the political differences could not spare him. During lunch time, Hon. Adolf Mwesige tried to convince Gen. Saleh in vain not to get lunch from the home of one Dauda a model farmer where the district leader ship had organised. In defiance, Hon. Adolf Mwesige excused himself from lunch, went to his home and Gen. Saleh was accompanied by Hon. Peace Mutuzo and the district Chairperson with other district leaders
COL. ROBERT MUGABE FACTOR IN BUNYANGABU POLITICS.
Another big factor in the Bunyangabu political differences is Col.
Robert Mugabe a serving army officer who enjoys popular support from the
people of Bunyangabu because of his developments in the area.
Due to his political ambitions in Bunyangabu parliamentary seat, Hon.
Adolf Mwesige who doubles as the defence minister has vowed that mugabe
will never be released to contest against him.
At a recent
handover function of tractors in Rwimi Town council, Hon. Adolf
Mwesige while officiating as the chief guest attacked Col. Mugabe of
insubordination and said that since no army General can retire without
his signature, Mugabe will not retire. This was later found out to be
false.
Col.Mugabe have been at the forefront of giving 40 bursaries
to the needy children in the district every year, support to churches
among other many projects aiming at developing the area.
Meanwhile, Fortportal magistrates court presided over by Nathan Mulindwa
granted bail to James Ategeka Mugarama for allegedly slapping RDC
Jane Asiimwe Muhindo over a vehicle.
Regional leaders stormed court
on Wednesday to show solidarity who included Hon. Peace Mutuzo who is
the woman MP and state minister of culture.
Fortportal Municipality
MP Hon. Alex Ruhunda and Kabarole district Chairperson Richard
Rwabuhinga was among many other local leaders at court.
How this will end will be by another story but if the President does not urgently intervene, NRM is likely to suffer a big loss come 2021 elections
