Major General Abdallah Nyembo officially took charge of the Third Defence Zone of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). His appointment follows Masunzu’s arrest in Kisangani and immediate transfer to Kinshasa for questioning. Authorities accuse the former commanders of failing to prevent the AFC/M23 rebels from capturing Nzibira in Walungu Territory on September 21, a critical loss that triggered deep frustration within senior army leadership.
