Karamoja Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu and her brother, Michael Naboya, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo for their second bail hearing, following charges of swindling iron sheets intended for the vulnerable in Karamoja.
However, Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro denied the bail application due to the lack of substantial sureties presented by the minister’s lawyers. One out of the four sureties presented was deemed sufficient by the court.
Kitutu was previously remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of corruption, conspiracy to defraud the government, and causing loss of public property, and has been denied bail due to the same reason.
The state prosecution alleges that Kitutu diverted iron sheets meant for the vulnerable in Karamoja for her own benefit and that of third parties, despite knowing that it would lead to the loss of public property.
