Kwania district authorities have gazetted Ikwera Girls Secondary School as an isolation centre for suspected coronavirus victims.

The move stems from a directive by the Health Ministry to each district to set up quarantine centre where suspected coronavirus victims will spend the 14 days of mandatory quarantine.

Ikwera Girls Secondary School was selected due to its proximity to Aduku Mission Health Center III, a catholic founded facility and government-owned Aduku Health Centre IV.

Salim Komakech, the Kwania Resident District Commissioner, who doubles as the Corona District Taskforce Chairperson, says the isolation centre will help them to keep suspects in one place and screen them.

The Kwania LC V Chairperson, Bazil Okello Onac, says the designated isolation centre is now functional and ready to handle suspected COVID patients.

He says they have already admitted 2 suspected cases from Italy and Tanzania while 7 other suspects are under self-quarantine in their respective homes.

Okello directs water user committees in the district to install handwashing facilities at different water points as a preventive measure against the spread of the deadly virus.

The Kwania County Member of Parliament, Tonny Ayo has donated 10 mattresses, 5 pairs of gumboots and handed over an ambulance to the isolation centre because of delayed supply by the government.

Dr Moses Ebong, the Kwania District Health Officer has called on the public to immediately inform health workers in the district they experience corona virus-like symptoms.

He says efforts are being made to expedite the delivery of supplies by the Health Ministry to save the health workers and police officers whom he said are operating at the risk of infection.
