The Pakistani business Community in Lira town has donated food items to the Corona virus (COVID-19) taskforce.

The donation handed over on Saturday includes 500kgs of beans, 500 kgs of maize flour and 20 boxes each containing 24 packets of cooking oil. Ten boxes of laundry soap and 5 cartons of salt were also handed over.

On Friday Mount Meru Ltd also handed in 50 boxes of laundry soap which are to be used for washing hands at the different district offices.

Sardar Muhammad Ateeq Nawaz, the association’s president says the donation came from contributions from members of the association. He said the fight against the virus is a collective responsibility.

Milton Odongo, the Lira Resident District Commissioner thanked the Pakistani Community for the donation. He said the donation now helps them solve some food challenges they have been having in the district.

Meanwhile, Lira District has now designated Lira Town College as the District Isolation Center.  The move was reached after some people were not happy with an earlier move of using Bar-apwo HC111 as an isolation Center.

Residents of the area had protested the District move to have an isolation Center situated in their area for fear of the spread of COVID- 19.

However, the authorities at the District went ahead to fence off the health facility and declared it the District Isolation Center before relocating to Lira Town College.
