President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the nation on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 8 PM in anticipation of the 38th National Liberation Day (NRM) anniversary scheduled for January 26. The virtual address will be delivered ahead of the celebration marking 38 years since the liberation of Uganda by the National Resistance Movement.

The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) announced that the President’s speech will be broadcasted on major television and radio stations, as well as online platforms. The theme for this year’s anniversary is “Building a country we shall all cherish.”

The main celebration event is slated to take place at St John SS Wakitaka in Jinja northern division, Jinja City, with President Museveni expected to be the chief guest. Over 50 individuals, including former Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness Henry Wako Muloki, will receive medals in recognition of their contributions to the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation struggle.

Similar to the previous post-COVID-19 liberation celebrations, the event will be open to the general public, while guests in the VIP tent are required to provide proof of their Covid-19 test results. Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda emphasized that individual demands to the president during the celebrations will not be allowed. Instead, those with petitions were directed to hand them over to the Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC), who will deliver them to the President.
