TikTok Dismisses Rumors of Sale to Elon Musk’s X as “Pure Fiction”

by Times

TikTok has denied reports that it may sell its operations to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), dismissing the claim as “pure fiction.” Speculation arose recently suggesting that the popular video-sharing platform, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, could be exploring a deal with Musk’s social media company.

In a statement, TikTok representatives firmly refuted the rumor, stating, “There is absolutely no truth to the reports that TikTok is considering a sale to X. We remain committed to our platform, community, and growth.”

The speculation may have been fueled by Musk’s ongoing efforts to expand X into an all-encompassing “everything app,” as well as TikTok’s regulatory scrutiny in key markets such as the United States. However, neither TikTok nor X has indicated any official discussions or plans for a sale.

Musk has not publicly commented on the matter, and analysts suggest that such a transaction would face significant regulatory and financial hurdles, given the scale and geopolitical sensitivities surrounding TikTok’s global operations.

For now, TikTok appears focused on continuing its trajectory as an independent platform, distancing itself from speculation about any sale or acquisition.
