Truck Crash in Western Kenya Kills 10 and Injures 10 Others Near Border with Tanzania

At least 10 people have been killed and 10 others injured after a truck crashed into pedestrians and motorcycle taxis in Migori, a town located near Kenya’s border with Tanzania. The incident occurred on a major highway on Saturday, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Rescue efforts are currently underway to free individuals trapped beneath the truck, and there are concerns that the death toll could rise. Witnesses reported that the driver repeatedly honked the horn before the crash, and the truck was transporting bags of rice to Tanzania.

Videos on social media showed people looting the rice while victims remained trapped under the truck. This accident occurred during the Easter holiday season, which sees a high number of road accidents in Kenya.

In January, a bus accident claimed the lives of at least 21 people and injured 49 others near the Ugandan-Kenyan border. Similarly, in 2019, ten people were killed in a bus crash in southeast Kenya after colliding with a truck on the side of the road.
