Uganda is on the brink of unveiling the state-of-the-art Speke Resort Convention Centre, a $47 million facility situated in Kampala, against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Victoria. This significant development is set to redefine Uganda’s hospitality industry and enhance its global competitiveness, particularly in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Scheduled for inauguration in January, the Convention Centre is an integral part of the Speke Commonwealth Resort, offering top-tier conference rooms and an impressive 4,400-seater auditorium. A collaboration between The Ruparelia Group and the Uganda Development Corporation, the facility is positioned to be a game-changer, contributing to Uganda’s standing as a preferred destination for major events. Notably, the Convention Centre will host the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in January 2024.

The visionary project, spearheaded by Ugandan billionaire Sudhir Ruparelia, exemplifies Uganda’s forward-thinking approach to garner global attention, facilitating diplomatic and business exchanges. Its strategic location within the resort complex is expected to elevate Uganda’s profile as an ideal venue for high-profile gatherings, potentially stimulating economic growth in the hospitality sector.

As the clock ticks toward January 2024, Uganda prepares to make a significant impact on the global stage by hosting not only the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit but also the Third South Summit, known as the G77 Summit. The events will unfold at the newly constructed Speke Resort Convention Centre, a result of the collaboration between the Ruparelia Group and the United Development Corporation (UDC), the investing arm of the Ugandan Government.

Under the banner of #NAMSUMMITUG2024, the convention centre is a hive of activity, with ongoing work encompassing fittings, air conditioning installations, and the setup of audio-visual equipment. This unique facility is poised to play a pivotal role in these prestigious summits, showcasing Uganda’s commitment to diplomatic and global affairs.

Integrated into the expansive 105-acre lakeside resort complex, the Speke Resort Convention Centre stands as a testament to Uganda’s vision for modern and world-class event hosting. With its remarkable features, including a 3800-4400-seater auditorium, 12 high-end conference and breakaway meeting rooms, and a restaurant capable of accommodating between 700-900 guests, the facility promises an unparalleled experience. The integration into the existing lakeside resort complex, featuring luxury accommodations such as Speke Resort Munyonyo and Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, underscores the comprehensive approach to creating a destination that caters to both business and leisure needs.
