Rev. Father Arrested While Leading Mass In South Western Uganda

While all religious leaders in Uganda agreed to suspend church and Mosque prayers amidst threat of Coronavirus, Rev Father John Bazimenyera has defied the Presidential directives.

UPDF’s 35th Commanding officer Based In Kisoro district on the Uganda-Rwanda-Congo border arrested him.

News from the district indicate he has been handed over to police by the army.

“Mutolere Dean, Rev Fr John Bazimenyera currently giving statement at Police.
He has just been arrested after being found leading a short mass at Gisoro Catholic parish”.

Fr Bazimenyera says that when he arrived at the Church from Voice of Muhabura studios for morning prayers, he met a group of people who requested for prayers.

He says he then opened one entrance and held prayers for the about 40 people.

Security teams led by the 35th batallion commander Nelson Bataringaya arrived midway and stopped the prayers before Holy Communion.
